The Lodge cast iron griddle is a durable, versatile, and timeless piece of cookware.

Like all my other cast iron, this Lodge L9OG3 cast iron griddle goes from the oven to the stovetop. Where that oven or stovetop might be electric, gas, or a wood fired stove.

This Lodge cast iron griddle will also find itself at home on the fire pit and the grill grate.

What a durable, versatile, and timeless piece of cookware. Try doing that with those fancy expensive Teflon coated non-stick cookware.

Product Quality and Features

As with all other Lodge cast iron products, this cast iron griddle is out of the box seasoned and ready for action. Lodge refers to the pre-seasoned surface as easy-release, versus non-stick.

Looking over this Lodge L9OG3 10.5 inch cast iron griddle, it feels tough, durable, and well made, as it should.

The cooking surface is typical of all Lodge products. So there are no surprises here. It’s not glass smooth, but does have some texture. The Lodge FAQ says this texture is a result of the casting process. The finish will smooth out with use and continued seasoning.

Lodge cast iron has a rugged charm. The handle features a convenient eyelet should you if hang up your cast iron for easy access and display. Yet, cast iron and drywall do not make a good couple, as cast iron is heavy.

With cast iron, there is no chemical coating to damage. Once again, we can use those metal cooking tools.

First Use

But, it would be wise to give it a quick clean using warm water only — no soap. A harsh soap can harm that cast iron seasoning we want to establish and maintain.

Next, give it a through drying. I’ll use a warm burner for this task. Finally, once any remaining moisture has evaporated, I’ll apply thin coat of cooking oil. You know the routine, the usual care you provide for your own cast iron cookware.

Finally, use butter or other cooking fat on warmed or preheated cast iron as you prepare your recipe.

Product Test

What is your ultimate griddle recipe?

Many folks think pancakes? On the other hand, I was thinking a good pan-seared steak. A thick and flavorful ribeye steak rubbed with garlic and seasoned with salt and pepper. A juicy medium rare inside, pan seared outside with a horseradish sauce side.

But, I didn’t get a vote.

My significant thoughts were – wait – pancakes.

Happy wife, happy life goes that well-worn saying. To be sure, no pan seared ribeye for me – not today.

Any Downside?

Not a downside. But an idea for a new product, I wish there was a bit more height to the griddle, almost like a half size skillet.

Looking at the Amazon 1-star customer reviews — we all do this don’t we? There were some complaints he griddle was heavy. It gets too hot. It arrived rusty. Food sticks. It cracked when I used it. The handle gets too hot. Problems with the cast.

We’ll address comments such as these on our FAQ page.

In summary, there isn’t any real downside to this Lodge L9OG3 10.5 inch cast iron griddle. Not that we have found.
